A TOI-Ipsos poll has revealed that the popular wind is still very much with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. One year into its tenure, his government continues to enjoy fairly high approval ratings in India’s largest cities, even though it’s not as high as it was five months back.
The poll which sought to read the popular mood on several topics has thrown up interesting results.
A recent issue that’s dogged the government is the “anti-farmer” tag the opposition has tried to pin on it for pushing the land acquisition bill.
Another is its alleged hostile attitude towards NGOs.
How do people view these charges?
Nearly half said the anti-farmer label was not justified, 36% said it was.
On the NGO issue, a clear majority said the government was rightly putting them in their place and only 13% said it was unnecessarily hostile.
