Swadeshi Jagaran Manch, an NGO dedicated to giving importance to indigenous products and technology, has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to emphasis on ‘Made by India’, instead of his pet ‘Make in India’ concept.
Kashmirilal, national organising secretary of the manch, told presspersons here on Thursday that ‘Make in India’ is already working in the country where foreign companies are producing materials in India. “Companies, like Pepsico Inc., a foreign company, is manufacturing products in India. What is needed is to make sure that Indian companies manufacture goods in India without the support of any foreign company,” he said.
Welcoming Mr. Modi’s decision to increase solar energy from the present 3.3 GW (gigawatts) to 100 GW by 2022 in India, Mr. Kashmirilal said that the government should make sure that all companies that were setting solar energy generation plants should be Indian.
The NGO has been opposing introduction of genetically-modified (GM) crops. in the country and Mr. Kashmirilal asserted that the organisation would keep up the fight.“We recently heard that a scientist in India has developed GM seeds of mustered and wanted permission for field trial. We will not allow any edible commodities to be genetically modifies as they are not good for human health,” he asserted.
