A founder of an NGO was allegedly assaulted by some men, who he said were part of a water mafia, in south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj on Wednesday afternoon.
Abdul Mabood, founder and director of NGO Snehi that provides counselling services, was badly injured in his face as the broken frame of an umbrella pierced his lip and nose.
Mr. Mabood said he underwent a surgery. A case of attempt to commit culpable homicide has been registered at the Vasant Kunj police station. A senior police officer said they are probing the case and arrests would be made based on investigation.
Mr. Mabood, however, has alleged that the assailants had made an attempt on his life and should have been booked for attempt to murder.
He said the assailants, most of them residents of the same locality as his, were allegedly encroaching on forest land and were involved in illegally selling water at high rates.
